On top of the advisory from Indiana Borough Police, State Police are reporting multiple identity theft cases being investigated.
The cases go back to the start of July, and a total of eight cases were reported in that time span. Each case had the same mode of operation, with the unknown suspect using the victims’ information to file for unemployment benefits. The victims live in different areas of Indiana County, including Indiana, Home, Shelocta, and Robinson.
Those who feel they may have had their identity stolen are asked to report to police immediately. Victims can also call the PA Fraud Hotline at 1-800-692-7469 to report unemployment compensation fraud.
