The PSAC quarterfinals tonight feature action for both the IUP women’s and men’s teams. The women will take on Cal U at the KCAC. IUP is 21-6, Cal 22-7 heading into the game, and the two teams split their season series, with IUP taking the first game 61-51 but losing the second one last week, 61-60 after holding a double-digit lead in the second half.
Coach Craig Carey says a big element of the game will be help defense, especially in isolation situations. And IUP plays solid help defense.
Fresh off their first round win over Mercyhurst, the IUP men are on the road at Gannon. It’s a tall task. Fourth seeded IUP is 17-12 while top seed Gannon is 26-2. Gannon swept the season series, winning easily in January, 84-58 but barely holding off the Crimson Hawks last month at the KCAC, 91-89.
Coach Joe Lombardi anticipates a wild atmosphere.
Gannon’s offense leads the nation in scoring, at 103.6 points per game and their defense is second in the nation in steals, at over 22 per game.
The women’s game tonight is on WCCS, with the pregame beginning at 5:40 PM. The men’s game is on 92.5 FM, U92, starting with the pregame at 7:10.
