LEGION BASEBALL
The two local entries into this year’s Youth Legion Western Regionals both exited the tournament yesterday, with a combined record of 0-and-6. It’s the first time an Indiana County Youth Legion team has not won a game in regionals since the format began in 1987.
The county league champion, Marion Center, had a chance to qualify for the state tournament but could not get by Conneaut Area, which scored three runs in the top of the 7th inning to break a 2-2 tie and win the game, 5-2.
Marion Center manager Josh Connor said afterward that his pitchers threw well, but the offense stumbled in the tournament, scoring only five runs on 13 hits in their three games.
Connor says no matter the outcome of the Regionals, it was a great season for a talented ball club.
SENIOR LEGION
In the Senior Legion Region 7 Tournament, Young Township was eliminated by Claysburg, 4-3, yesterday, as a 7th inning rally came to an end on a groundout with the tying and winning runs on base.
Kody Thompson had three hits for Young Township, including a double, and Brady Yard doubled and singled. Brice Laurenti had two hits as well for the Renegades. Young Township ends its season with a record of 20-8.
LITTLE LEAGUE
In sectional play yesterday, the Indiana 12-and-under team lost to State College, ending its season.
The Indiana 10-and-under All-Stars stayed alive with a 10-9 win over Bellefonte. They’ll play undefeated Northern Lebanon tonight, and since Northern Lebanon has already beaten Indiana once in the sectional, Indiana needs to win twice.
The Indiana Junior Little League 14-and-under team will play Somerset in the first sectional game next Tuesday at 6 PM on the Hogan Field at the White Township Recreation Complex.
