If you’ve ever wondered how school boards come to the point of voting on a new policy or procedure, it’s through the work of its committees, and there’s an important combined meeting tonight of the Indiana Area School Board’s Academic & Extracurricular and Buildings, Grounds, & Transportation committee members.
On the agenda will be a review of the Health & Safety Plan for the upcoming school year, including discussion of the mask-wearing policy. The plan as outlined would make mask wearing optional for staff and students, with a strong recommendation that those who are not vaccinated, under age 12, or immunocompromised continue to wear masks. The district would continue to work with the state departments of Health and Education and with local officials to monitor the need to mask up should there be a covid outbreak.
Last week, the Indiana School Board approved a different health and safety plan, which mandated masks be worn when inside district facilities.
Among other items on tonight’s committee agenda are the dual enrollment program and discussion of the revised Strategy Solutions Proposal, as well as the impending retirement of a senior high phys. ed. teacher.
