As we enter another stretch of warm weather comes to our area, people may be considering burning brush or garbage once again, but conditions may still be ripe for those fires to go out of control.
Indiana Fire Association First Assistant Chief Ron Moreau said that Indiana County has seen 14 brush fires this year so far, and that the months of March, April and May are traditionally the months when the most brush fires occur. Moreau added that it’s not just the dry ground that people have to worry about.
Moreau advises against burning brush, but he says if it has to be done, check the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website for a map of fire risk conditions. He also said that people need to stay with the fire until the fire goes out, and to notify local authorities if you are planning to have a large fire.
