One of the main fixtures of the famed “Steel Curtain” has passed away.
Andy Russell, who spent 11 years with the Steelers, died Thursday night at the age of 82. He was drafted out of Missouri in the 16th round of the 1963 NFL Draft and helped guide the Steelers to two Super Bowl championships in 1975 and 1976.
He was also named to seven Pro Bowls, named team MVP in 1971, and was a part of the inaugural “Hall of Honor” class for the Steelers in 2017 after compiling 38 sacks and 18 interceptions in 168 games.
Alongside his playing career, Russell served as Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1964-65.
