The much-anticipated spring debut of Paul Skenes happened yesterday in Sarasota, Floris, and all he did was throw a three-up, three-down inning and top the 100-mile-per-hour mark on the radar gun three times in a short outing.
The Baltimore Orioles rallied for four runs in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Pirates, 9-8.
Oneil Cruz, Henry Davis, and Nick Gonzalez each had two hits for the Pirates. Davis and Ke’Bryan Hayes each homered and Hayes drove in five runs.
Skenes said it was a good first step for him in is Pirates spring training debut.
Henry Davis liked catching Skenes.
Ke’Bryan Hayes says the Pirates have a much stronger lineup this season.
The Pirates play the Tampa Bay Rays this afternoon in Bradenton.

The San Francisco Giants will be without starting pitcher Tristan Beck for the foreseeable future. He has an aneurysm in the upper part of his pitching arm. He is currently evaluating his treatment options and could miss significant time.
Classic Philadelphia fan behavior has a consequence…there will be no more “dollar dog nights” this season because fans have taken to throwing their hot dogs on the field during games. The long-time tradition is being replaced with a “two-for-one” deal during a pair of games in April.
