Fire crews were called out early this morning to a fire at a home in White Township.
Indiana County 911 reported that the call went out at 12:31 AM for a structure fire on Route 110 near Lutz School Road. Indiana, Clymer and Creekside fire departments were dispatched along with the RIT Team and Citizens Ambulance. Indiana fire officials say that the homeowner was outside when they arrived, and said an electric space heater in the basement had malfunctioned, and that caused a small smouldering fire that filled the house with heat, soot and smoke. The home was unoccupied at the time.
Crews were able to use pressurized water sprays to cool down burnt wood and embers from a pool table in the basement, then took the remnants of the table outside. Clymer fire department, the RIT team and Citizens Ambulance were cancelled, and volunteers remained on-scene for another 45 minutes after the fire was out to ventilate the house.
