The winning streaks continued for the IUP basketball teams last night before 2,234 fans at the KCAC.
The women, winners of eight straight, came away with a 68-57 win to secure a first-round bye in next week’s PSAC playoffs.
Megan Smith had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Brittany Robinson tallied 18 points and Lauren Wolosik added 17 points and nine rebounds.
The Hawks are 20-5 overall and 18-3 in the PSAC and can win the division title with a victory Saturday afternoon at California. The Cal women were beaten by Mercyhurst Wednesday night, setting up the decisive game.
The IUP ladies are ranked third in the region.
The IUP mens winning streak has reached 16 after a 74-58 win over Clarion.
With the win the Crimson Hawks increase their record to 25-2 and 20-1 in the PSAC. The win ties the record for most regular season victories.
Anthony Glover registered seven treys for 21 points. Devon Cottrell had 15, Cobo Diaz 12 points and 10 rebounds and Blake Danielak chipped in with 11 off the bench.
The guys are ranked second both in the region and the national polls.
The regular season comes to a close Saturday at California at 3 and 5 p.m. Pre-game is at 2:45p.m. on U92.5 and U92.5 Sportschannel.
Both IUP teams will host the PSAC Quarterfinal games Wednesday night at the KCAC.
