After a slow start, Penns Manor easily handled Purchase Line, 60-20 in their first round District Six Double-A playoff game.
The Comets’ full-court defense forced 31 Red Dragons’ turnovers as Penns Manor turned a seven-point margin at the end of one to 18 points at the half. Then in the third quarter, Penns Manor turned up the intensity and outscored Purchase Line 23-2 to put the game away. Autumn Fennel led the way for the Comets with 20 points and Abby Tomayko scored 13. Alycia Zayachak provided a spark off the bench in the first quarter, hitting two straight three-pointers. She finished the game with 10 points. Purchase Line was led by Josey Fleming with 7.
Coach Jason Miloser’s team earns a spot in the quarterfinals Wednesday at third-seeded Bellwood Antis, and he says they’ll have to be on their game against a very talented team. Should they win on Wednesday, the Comets will make the District 6 semis and qualify for the state tournament.
