Martin and Mitchell Homer in Wednesday Night Victory
Mason Martin swatted his league-leading 17th home run of the season
CURVE, PA – Cal Mitchell knocked his tenth home run of the season and Mason Martin blasted his league-leading 17th in Altoona’s 10-3 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Wednesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
The Curve built an early 5-0 lead in support of starter Travis MacGregor who completed five innings for the seventh time this season in 11 appearances. MacGregor allowed two runs on three hits and two walks, he struck out five on his way to picking up his third win of the season.
Mitchell’s home run in the third inning made him the third different Curve player reach double digit home runs on the season joining Rodolfo Castro (11) and Mason Martin (17).
Josh Bissonette played an integral role in the victory with a two-run single in the second inning and a two-run double in the eighth inning. Bissonette recorded a season-high three hits and four runs batted in in the victory.
Cam Alldred, Will Gardner and Shea Murray combined on four scoreless innings of relief to finish the victory, allowing only two baserunners and recording five strikeouts.
Altoona recorded 12 hits in the victory, led by the big days from Bissonette, Martin and Jonah Davis who each recorded multi-hit days at the plate. Altoona scored in each of the first three innings and each of the final three innings that they came to the plate. Ji-Hwan Bae added a base hit, two runs scored and a stolen base in the victory.
The Curve and Rumble Ponies continue their series on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday is THIRSTday with $2 16-oz Miller Lite drafts, $2 22-ounce soft drinks and $1 Juniata Brand by Kunzler Hot Dogs, presented by Q94. LHP Trey McGough (1-2, 3.86) will start for Altoona, he’ll be opposed by RHP Adam Oller (3-3, 5.29).
