A pre-trial hearing is scheduled today for a man charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence for an incident in late August of last year.
34-year-old Joshua Brink of Smicksburg was charged in connection with the accident that killed 52-year-old Douglas Dalessio. Brink was driving his SUV off Barnard Road in West Mahoning Township, and overcorrected when he tried get back on the road. His vehicle went across the road and off the other side, went up an embankment and hit a lawn tractor that Dalessio was riding. After his vehicle stopped, Brink allegedly fled the scene.
In addition to homicide by vehicle with DUI, Brink is charged with three other felonies: aggravated assault by vehicle, accidents involving death or injury, and the same offense while not properly licensed. He is also charged with misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence, and with five summary offenses, including having a blood-alcohol content higher than .02 percent
His hearing was to be held on February 20th, but that has been continued.
