The Blairsville Underground Railroad will celebrate Black History Month with an open house today, which will culminate with a special award ceremony.
The open house starts at 9:00 AM at the Underground Railroad History Center at 214 South East Lane. The open house will feature new exhibits in the lower level of the museum, including a video on the 54th Massachusetts that included two Indiana County soldiers, that was produced by a student from Belle Vernon High School. Events will culminate at 1:00 this afternoon with the presentation of the Community Initiative Award from the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission. Denise Jennings with the Blairsville Underground Railroad says that some members of the commission will be on hand today for the award.
The events are free and open to the public.
