The Steelers and center Mason Cole have parted ways.
Cole, who was released Friday, started all 34-regular season games during the last two seasons and had one year left on his contract. Cole was scheduled to earn $3.25 million in base salary and collect a $1.5 million roster bonus. While the Steelers save that much in salary cap space, there’s still $1.521 million in dead money that will continue to count against the cap.
Veteran interior offensive lineman Nate Herbig, who can play center, remains on the offseason roster.
