IUP’s provost and vice president for academic affairs has announced his retirement effective Aug. 20.
Timothy S. Moerland has served in both positions since 2013, when he came to IUP from Kent State University where he served as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Before that, he held several positions at Florida State University.
In a statement, IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll called Moerland an outstanding member of his team, leading many initiatives during his time in office. Some of those initiatives included new majors and programs including public health, environmental engineering and doctoral programs in business. Driscoll said that he also set high standards for the university’s I.T. team, and has been a leader in the State System of Higher Education.
Moerland praised his leadership team in his own statement, saying they were all dedicated and skilled team members that focus on the students first. He also appreciated the progress made in the issues of inclusion and diversity.
President Driscoll will appoint an interim provost and vice president for academic affairs to serve for the 2021-22 school year while IUP will conduct a nationwide search for Moerland’s replacement.
