The Pirates and Mets were rained out last night in New York, and the game has been rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon as part of a 7-inning doubleheader, with the first pitch to come at 4:10. The airtime will be 3:45.
The scheduled starters from last night will instead be on the mound tonight as the two teams play a single game. J.T. Brubaker goes for the Pirates. He is 4-8 with a 4.09 ERA. The Mets will start Taijuan Walker, who is 7-3 with a stellar 2.44 ERA.
The Pirates will start Tyler Anderson against Marcus Stroman in the first game tomorrow but the Bucs have not announced a second game starter. It looks like it will be Max Kranick, who flew to New York from Indianapolis yesterday.
Kranick set a Major League Baseball record in his debut on June 27, pitching five perfect innings before leaving the game due to a long rain delay. He was optioned back to Indy after the game and last pitched last Saturday. Because it’s a doubleheader, Kranick could start the game as the 27th player on the roster and the Bucs would not have to make a corresponding roster move.
While the Pirates wrap up the first half of the season Sunday in New York and head to the All-Star break, they will also be looking to Colorado, where the first round of the MLB Draft gets underway at 7 o’clock Sunday night.
Pittsburgh has the top overall pick and while they’ve not given an indication of who they will draft, the top five considered to be candidates are high school shortstops Marcelo Mayer and Jordan Lawlar, Vanderbilt University pitchers Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker, and Louisville catcher Henry Davis.
Mayer has emerged as the top choice in most mock drafts. Former Pirates’ second baseman Neil Walker will announce the pick on Sunday night.
