Those in the southern part of Indiana County may see a helicopter flying overhead today as part of some black fly suppression efforts.
The flights will focus on areas of the Conemaugh River as Vectobac 12-A-S will be sprayed near tree top level. Operations will continue throughout the day until all the streams are treated. This will affect portions of six counties, including Indiana, Armstrong and Westmoreland. Vectobac 12-A-S is a bacterial larvacide meant to kill black flies, but it is not a chemical. It will look like a thick brown liquid and resemble chocolate milk.
The larvacide will be released at specific points on each stream.
