Multiple fire departments were dispatched for a brush fire in Armstrong Township yesterday.
Indiana County 911 reported the brush fire at 2:08 PM on Lacey Lane east of Shelocta. Elderton Fire Department was first called to the scene at that time, but at 2:11 PM, Indiana, Creekside and Iselin Fire Departments were called in to assist, along with tankers from Elderton, Creekside and Coal Run-McIntyre fire departments. Plumville fire department was also called in at 2:36 PM. Marion Center firefighters were called in shortly after that for standby detail.
Fire officials say one person was burning rubbish and the fire got out of control. The fire was on a hillside away from the road, but crews were able to use a nearby hydrant for their water source. Roughly four to five acres of property were damaged in the fire. Crews were on scene for about two hours.
This marks the eighth brush fire this year in Indiana County.
