With pitchers and catchers taking the field at Bradenton for the start of Spring Training today, the Pirates are reportedly involved in talks regarding several established MLB starters. The Post-Gazette’s Jason Mackey says the Pirates are engaged in serious trade talks to acquire right-hander Edward Cabrera from the Marlins. The Bucs would send a “highly rated” prospect to Miami. Cabrera was 7-7 with a 4.24 ERA last season and in three seasons in Miami, he is 13-14 with a 4.01 ERA.
Other reports indicate the Pirates have met more than once with the agent for ex-Yankees right-hander Domingo German. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi connects the Pirates to free agent righties Michael Lorenzon and Noah Syndergaard.
Also of note, even though pitchers and catchers are the only players required to report to Bradenton before the full squad comes in on Monday, there are plenty of position players already there, including shortstop Oneil Cruz, who was spotted running sprints yesterday.

The San Francisco Giants will sign outfielder Jorge Soler to a three-year, $42 million contract after he declined a $9 million option to remain with the Marlins. He hit .250 with 36 home runs and 75 RBI last season in Miami.
