Starting this morning, people in Pennsylvania no longer need to wear facemasks as a mitigation effort for Covid-19.
Governor Tom Wolf’s mask mandate expired at 12:01 this morning, meaning that unvaccinated and vaccinated people no longer need to wear a face mask when in public, including stores, restaurants and bars. The governor announced last month that the mask mandate would be lifted either today or when 70 percent of Pennsylvania’s adult population was vaccinated against Covid-19, whichever comes first. Indiana County currently has 28,885 people fully vaccinated, representing 34.3 percent of Indiana County’s population. Another 3,717 have received their first vaccine.
There are some exceptions to the new regulations. Residents are still required to wear masks on any form of mass transportation, including buses, planes, trains and airports. That is due to CDC and TSA regulations. Workplaces, businesses, long-term care facilities, hospitals, schools, prisons and homeless shelters may also continue to require masks, but that is up to each location to make that decision.
