If you are a catholic and are looking forward to a romantic meal on Valentine’s Day, you will have to make your meal either with fish or a vegetarian option.
This year marks the rare occasion where St. Valentine’s Day falls on the first day of the Lenten season, Ash Wednesday. According to an announcement from the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg, there will be no dispensation from fasting or abstinence on February 14th. The last time that Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day fell on the same day was in 2018.
A dispensation for a holiday has been done in the past. Last year, St. Patrick’s Day fell on a Friday during the Lenten season. On that occasion, Bishop Larry Kulick gave a dispensation to allow Catholics to have their corned beef and cabbage on the day, provided that another choice of penance was made
