While the Pirates were able to rally back on Tuesday night to take the series opener from the White Sox, it was Chicago who had the last laugh, taking the series finale, 4-3.
Chicago’s Leury Garcia opened the scoring with a solo home run off starter Chase De Jong in the second inning, and shortstop Tim Anderson added an insurance run shortly after.
The Pirates tied it in the third inning after Adam Frazier got them on the board, driving in catcher Michael Perez on a groundout. Ke’Bryan Hayes would then single in De Jong to nod up the scoring.
Yasmani Grandal hit a go-ahead two-run double in the fifth inning, which proved to be the difference maker in the contest.
Hayes would tally his second RBI on a single in the seventh, however that would be all the Pirates’ bats could muster.
The Pirates, now 26-46 on the season, open a four-game series in St. Louis tomorrow night. Chad Kuhl (1-4, 5.66 ERA) will start for the Pirates. Carlos Martinez (3-8, 6.62 ERA) will oppose him for the Cardinals.
