State Representative Jim Struzzi says the full House of Representatives will consider the Voting Rights Protection Act this week. The House State Government Committee approved the proposals last week.
Among the bill’s many reforms are tighter voter ID requirements; signature verification on mail-in ballots; earlier counting of mail-in ballots, from election day to five days prior to election day; restricting the acceptance of private donations by counties for the administration of elections; tighter regulations for drop boxes; and, starting in 2025, early in-person voting.
Should the bill pass the House this week, it would go to the Senate for consideration. Governor Wolf has been highly critical of the bill and has signaled that he would veto it if it reaches his desk.
