IUP has announced Covid-19 mitigation measures that were in place for the spring semester will be in place over the summer sessions, but mitigations for the fall semester will change.
The university announced in a news release that for the Fall 2021 semester, employees, students and visitors will no longer be required to wear masks while outdoors on campus. Masks will still be required when indoors and on IndiGo buses, and will be recommended when at crowded outdoor events or during activities where there is sustained close contact with other people. Social distancing mandates will not be in effect and IUP classrooms and meeting rooms will be returned to their original pre-pandemic configurations.
Some of the mitigation efforts that will remain in place at IUP include free Covid-19 vaccines through the IUP Health Service, free asymptomatic testing for on-campus students along with symptomatic testing at the IUP Health Service, and space on campus for students to self-isolate if they are identified as a positive or presumed positive case. As per State System of Higher Education rules, there is no need for a student, employee or visitor to produce proof of Covid-19 vaccination. IUP is also saying that no employee or student should ask if their colleagues, students or visitors about their Covid-19 status.
IUP will also continue to follow PA Department of Health and CDC guidelines for Covid-19, and will also monitor Covid-19 test results and notify close contacts of individuals who test positive for Covid-19 by text or email.
IUP announced in February that it would return to face-to-face instruction for the 2021-2022 academic year. Classes will start August 23rd.
