Thousands will flock to Gobbler’s Knob this morning to await the prediction of Punxsutawney Phil, as to whether we will have six more weeks of winter or an early spring.
This year marks the 137th celebration of Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney. Except for 11 years in which his prediction was not recorded, Phil has seen his shadow 107 times to indicate an extended winter season, compared to 19 times where he predicted an early spring.
Accuweather meteorologists announced their prediction prior to Phil’s and they say an early spring could be in the future for the northern part of the U.S. as well as the east coast, while the southern region sees more winter-like conditions. They are, however, following Phil’s prediction closely, which is expected to come around 7:30.
Renda Media’s Josh Widdowson will be broadcasting live from Gobbler’s Knob throughout the morning on our Punxsutawney stations, but he will provide local updates, presented by the Indiana County Tourist Bureau.
