Several criminal call hearings are scheduled for today in Indiana County’s Court of Common Pleas. One will be for a Penn Run man charged with rear-ending a state police cruiser last year.
40-year-old David Paul Dilts was charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer, DUI, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and other charges for an incident on February 24.
Police say he was going east along Airport Road and allegedly rear-ended a cruiser causing moderate damage, as well as disabling damage to the truck. After the collision, Dilts allegedly got out of the truck and aggressively approached and shouted at the trooper. He was also suspected of driving under the influence as police spotted a white-powdery substance around his nose.
When troopers tried to administer field sobriety tests, he became angry and refused to follow commands. While he was handcuffed, he spat a chunk of chewing tobacco in the officer’s face. He was later taken to IRMC for a legal blood draw, then placed in Indiana County Jail.
Also due in court is 27-year-old Tyrone Thomas III of Indiana. He’s charged in connection with an incident in Indiana Borough on September 24th, when Indiana Borough police said they were trying to serve an arrest warrant on Tyrone Thomas III in the 300 block of Philadelphia Street at 2:38 AM when he started to flee on foot. He was eventually apprehended and taken into custody.
Criminal Call is designed to update the court and parties involved on the progress of a case. Proceedings are usually postponed, but on occasion, guilty pleas have been entered at this phase.
