Homer-Center junior forward Alexis Newhouse scored the game-winning basket as time expired, lifting the Lady Wildcats to a 51-50 upset victory over the West Shamokin Wolves Monday evening at the Homer Dome in a big Heritage Conference crossover matchup.
The Wildcats missed two free throws but the Wolves turned it over after grabbing the loose-ball rebound, giving HC one final opportunity. Newhouse capitalized, laying in the winning basket off of a missed shot.
For a few moments the final result was in doubt because the officials left the court without signaling if the basket was good or not . After Homer-Center Athletic Director Greg Page retrieved them, the basket was ruled good and the Wildcats had a wild win.
Morgan Buggey lead the Wildcats with 14 points while Olivia Fusaro topped all scorers with 23.
Homer Center is 11-2 overall and 6-2 in the conference, while West Shamokin is 12-2 and 6-1.
The loss ended a 12-game winning streak for West Shamokin.
