This afternoon, Major League Baseball announced its proposed disciplinary measures for tackling the issue of pitchers using foreign substances.
In an official statement, the league said that first offenders will receive a 10-game suspension. Repeat offenders will encounter longer suspensions.
In addition, any clubhouse officials caught distributing foreign substances will be subject to fines and/or suspension from Commissioner Rob Manfred.
The statement did add that rosin bags will still be allowed for pitchers to use. Players will not be allowed to apply sunscreen for night games, however day game usage is still allowed. Umpires are rumored to check pitchers twice a game to ensure that they are obeying the foreign substance policy, and league officials will monitor the effectiveness this policy has on competition.
The rule will go into affect June 21.
