Eleven walks, three of them with the bases loaded, were part of the reason that the Pirates losing skid extended to five games as they lost the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers 7-3.
Four walks were issued by Chase De Jong, but it was part of his plan, as his walks came over five innings of work. Clay Holmes, who took the loss, issued four walks as well over only one third of an inning, giving up five runs in the process.
Ben Gamel, Gregory Polanco, and Ke’Bryan Hayes each homered for the Bucs in the losing effort.
The Pirates and the Brewers play this afternoon at 3:45 on WCCS.
