The grind of a seven-day, four-game slate of games continues for the IUP basketball teams, which face Cal U at the KCAC tonight, just two days after sweeping Slippery Rock.
Both Vulcans teams come into the doubleheader with stellar records. The 16-2 nationally-ranked Cal men are coming off a 77-60 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday, while 13-5 IUP beat Slippery Rock, 77-64. Both teams are 10-2 in the PSAC.
Coach Joe Lombardi calls Cal an “Elite Eight” level team that will be fired up to play IUP.
The Cal women are 14-4. They clipped Mercyhurst, 66-63 in overtime on Saturday. 13-4 IUP bulldozed Slippery Rock Saturday, 85-39. Both the Vulcans and Crimson Hawks are 9-3 in the PSAC.
Coach Craig Carey says the two teams are very similar.
The women’s game will be a homecoming for Cal freshman Macy Sardone, the Homer-Center grad. In limited play during her freshman year, Sardone is averaging 2.4 points per game.
Tonight’s action begins with the women’s game tipping off at 5:30. We’re on the air at 5:15 on 92.5 FM, U92.
