After their overtime win over Montreal on Saturday, the Penguins don’t play again until February 6th, as the NHL enters its All-Star break. Rather than have its young players sit around for all that time, the Pens yesterday sent forward Valtteri Puustinen and defensemen Ryan Shea and John Ludvig to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to play a few games.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the Penguins’ performances against Florida on Friday and Montreal on Saturday helped to set up the team for a run for the playoffs.
League rules stipulate that there can be no team activities for seven days for the Penguins, whose next practice is scheduled for next Sunday. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will play three games while the NHL is on break.
