On Tuesday, the United School Board approved its 2021-2022 budget that contained no tax increases.
The budget revenues came to $22,882,710 with expenses coming to $22,764,512, leaving a budget surplus of $118,198. The vote went 7-1, with Hunter Overdorff voting against the budget, saying he had submitted his own budget plan that would have resulted in the district being able to lower taxes, instead of leaving taxes flat or raising them. He said that he submitted the plan to help out district families who have gone through tough times with the Covid-19 Pandemic and with rising unemployment in the region.
In other business, the board hired Craig Bytner as the head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach, with his salary to be determined at a later date. The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with Indiana County Head Start to coordinate and provide effective services for district children.
