The Steelers’ TJ Watt is a finalist for AP Defensive Player of the Year and Joey Porter Jr. is a finalist for Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Watt’s competition for the top defensive honor is Cleveland edge rusher Myles Garrett, Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby, Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, and Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland.
The other finalists competing with Porter for Rookie of the Year are Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon, Texans edge rusher Will Anderson, Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter, and Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner.
Former Pitt defensive back Damar Hamlin is a finalist for Comeback Player of the Year.
The MVP finalists are the prohibitive favorite, Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, along with quarterbacks Josh Allen of the Bills, Dak Prescott of the Cowboys and Brock Purdy of the 49ers, and 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey.
The NFL conference championships on Sunday will feature the Chiefs and Ravens for the AFC championship at 3 o’clock followed by the 49ers hosting the Lions in the NFC, kicking off at 6:30. You’ll hear both games on WCCS.
Bill Belicheck lost out on another head coaching job yesterday when the Atlanta Falcons opted for Raheem Morris, their former interim coach. Belicheck’s best hope to coach a team next season may be waiting to see if Andy Reid retires from the Chiefs after their season ends.
