State Representative Jim Struzzi yesterday announced a grant to upgrade and rehabilitate the historic Blairsville Armory building.
The grant worth $16,250 to the Friends of Blairsville Communities group was one of 54 approved this week by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission under the Keystone Historic Preservation Grants program. The grant will be used to make the facility ADA-compliant and, according to Struzzi, to make it a “welcoming space for a variety of future uses.”
Struzzi said in a news release that “At 111 years of age, the Blairsville Armory if a unique piece of Indiana County history” … that still provides a service in Blairsville. The building is used for fitness classes and other community activities.
Funds for the program are raised from a portion of the state realty transfer tax.
