The IUP basketball teams make the short trip to Greensburg tonight for a doubleheader against Seton Hill. It’s the start of a four-game stretch over the next seven days for both teams.
With a win, men’s coach Joe Lombardi would move into a tie with former Edinboro coach Greg Walcavich for third place on the PSAC men’s basketball coaching wins list. Lombardi has 411 wins at IUP and he is 21-1 all-time against Seton Hill. But he knows Seton Hill isn’t going to be easy, especially since they play a tough 2-3 zone.
IUP is 11-5, and 8-2 in the PSAC. Seton Hill is 10-6, and 5-5.
The IUP women are 11-4, and 7-3 in the PSAC while the Griffins are 9-7, and 6-4 in the conference. Coach Craig Carey says Seton Hill gets it done offensively and defensively.
IUP guard Garvin Clarke is the PSAC West Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. He averaged 28.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game last week in wins over UPJ and Edinboro. Clarke previously won the award for the week of December 11th.
You’ll hear tonight’s doubleheader on 92.5 FM U92, starting with the women’s pregame at 5:15.
