UPDATE: Mills was sentenced to serve nine months to two years in Indiana County Jail and pay a $500 fine along with court costs for his “no contest” plea.
McIntyre was sentenced to serve one year of probation for his guilty plea to harassment.
Fleming was sentenced in one of his cases to 9-12 months in prison, a $500 fine and two years on probation. In the second case, he was sentenced to four years probation along with fines and court costs. The probations will run concurrent with each other.
WHAT WE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED
Several defendants are scheduled for sentencing today in Indiana County Court, including a Blairsville man who pleaded no contest to a single count of misdemeanor simple assault in a case for which he was originally charged with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in 2014 and 2015.
In addition to simple assault, 33-year-old Stephen Mills had been charged with two counts of felony aggravated indecent assault, four counts of corruption of minors, and two counts of indecent assault. The girl was 16 years old when she reported the assaults to Indiana County Children and Youth Services in February, saying that Mills told her he had developed “feelings” for her after seeing a picture of her attending a school formal. Mills says he only took the plea for the sake of his children, not wanting to jeopardize his freedom. He denies that anything happened between him and the girl and says her report was false, adding that she was believed based on her word alone, with no evidence. Mills entered his plea on the day jury selection was scheduled to begin for him in August.
Also in court today, 24-year-old Nicholas McIntyre of Indiana will be sentenced for a guilty plea to harassment, with agreement for non-prosecution for two counts of terroristic threats and another count of harassment. McIntyre will also be the subject of a probation revocation hearing for a guilty plea to receiving stolen property in a theft case from April of last year.
25-year-old Andrew Fleming of Indiana will be sentenced in two drug cases, both from last year. He pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver in both cases. The drugs included cocaine and marijuana.
Also today, a jury trial is scheduled for 23-year-old William Anthony James of Philadelphia, who is charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, and defiant trespass. James was taken into custody by Indiana Borough Police when he became unruly during an assault investigation in October of last year.
