State police have released more information in connection with a chase that started in Blairsville and ended after the suspect crashed his vehicle in the Coral-Graceton area.
As we originally reported, the suspect, who was later identified by state police as a 32-year-old Glen Campbell man, was seen acting suspiciously at the Sheetz in Downtown Blairsville on Monday. When Blairsville Borough Police ran the license plates on the suspect’s Mitsubishi SUV, they discovered that they were actually registered to a Volkswagen, and the driver’s license was suspended. Borough police tried to pull the suspect over, but he did not and lead police on a chase. Blairsville Borough Police called State Police to assist in the pursuit, and they sent one cruiser to assist.
The suspect lead police onto Old Route 22, then went North in the Southbound lanes of Route 119, and then went onto the Hoodlebug Trail, where the SUV took on some damage. The suspect then drove back onto 119 and bailed out of the vehicle before it collided with the center divider. The suspect then jumped the barrier and headed into a wooded area east of 119. Around 5:47 PM, other state troopers arrived to search the area for the suspect, who was found fleeing on foot in the woods. He eventually surrendered without further incident.
State police say the man suffered a head injury, allegedly when he bailed out of the SUV and hit his head against the concrete barrier. He was eventually flown to Forbes Regional Hospital for treatment. Coral-Graceton firefighters were called out for the crash and they also set up a landing zone for the medical helicopter.
The suspect was not identified by name as charges have yet to be filed.
