Indiana County’s unemployment rate went down slightly in April.
The PA Department of Labor and Industry reported today that the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate went down a tenth of a percentage point to 7.1 percent in the month of April. Last year at this time, during the middle of the pandemic, the unemployment rate for the county was at 16.2 percent, more than double than the figures announced for last month.
This runs counter to the trends at the state and federal level as the unemployment rates for both Pennsylvania and the United States went up one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.4 percent and 6.1 percent, respectively.
Jefferson County’s unemployment rate is the lowest in the region at 6.7 percent. Westmoreland County has a 6.8 percent unemployment rate. Clearfield has a 7.4 percent unemployment rate, Cambria County is at 7.6 percent and Armstrong County’s rate is the highest in the region at 7.7 percent.
The lowest unemployment rate in the state was in Montour County at 4.1 percent, while the highest rate was in Philadelphia County with a 9.9 percent unemployment rate.
The total number of non-farm jobs in Indiana County went up by 200 over the month to 29,600. Jobs were essentially unchanged in all super sectors.
