The Penguins blew a 2-0 third-period lead and lost 3-2 to Vegas on Saturday night, but tonight they have a chance to get right back on the winning track against the Arizona Coyotes, a team they’ve beaten eleven straight times, going all the way back to November of 2017. That includes a 4-2 Penguins win in Pittsburgh on December 12th.
On Saturday, Jake Guentzel scored his 20th goal of the season, making it seven straight seasons with twenty or more goals. Coach Mike Sullivan says it’s an indicator of the type of player Guentzel is.
Center Evgeni Malkin has become a flash point for commentators and fans, and he, himself, says he’s not playing well. Sullivan says Malkin needs to simplify his game.
Malkin and Sidney Crosby both have eight-game point streaks against the Coyotes. Erik Karlsson has an eight-game point streak against the league overall and fellow defenseman Kris Letang is one point shy of a fourteenth season with 30 or more points.
Tonight’s game faces off at 9 PM. We’ll join the action right after the United/Homer-Center basketball game.
