The Pirates led the Rockies, 3-1, yesterday but the bullpen failed them, and they lost, 4-3.
Joe Block has the story:
The Pirates open a brief two-game series in Kansas City today, with Chad Kuhl returning from a minor league rehab assignment to start against the Royals’ Mike Minor. Kuhl went on the injured list on April 22nd with right shoulder soreness. He was 0-1 with a 6.32 ERA in four starts at the time. The righthander allowed one run in six-and-two-thirds innings in two starts with Indianapolis.
The airtime on WCCS tonight is 7:45.
General Manager Ben Cherington said yesterday that third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes is almost ready to return from his wrist injury, which has kept him out since April 4th. Hayes is eligible to return from the injured list on Thursday. He was 0-for-4 yesterday in a rehab start for Indy, where he is hitting .250 with 2 doubles and 2 home runs in 24 at-bats.
Cherington also said injured first baseman Colin Moran and infielder/outfielder Philip Evans are going to start injury rehab assignment, perhaps as early as today. He said 2018 number-one draft choice Travis Swaggerty is “leaning toward” season-ending surgery for his dislocated shoulder.
