On Thursday night, the Homer Center School Board approved modifying the district calendar to make up for the recent snow day, but when it would be made up was a sticking point.
The original motion was to add a day to the end of the year, making the last day of school and graduation on May 31st. Superintendent Ralph Cecere said the reason using May 31st was to have graduation fall on a Friday and using the rest of the snow days in the year for any new cancellations that come up.
Board member Vicki Smith was initially against adding a day at the end of the year but did change her mind to support her earlier vote on the district calendar.
The final vote to change the last day of school to May 31st passed unanimously.
In other business, the board approved hiring Matthew Wilson as the new buildings and grounds supervisor. He takes over for Ed Sutter, who is stepping down after serving the district for nine years.
