The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) issued an advisory yesterday highlighting the best cybersecurity practices in wake of the Colonial Pipeline disruption a few weeks ago, which caused a nationwide shortage in petroleum.
The advisory mentions that ransomware – malware that threatens to release a user’s private information in exchange for payment and the reason for the Pipeline shutdown – has become the number one threat to both private and public sector organizations over recent years, and that it has grown in scale and sophistication.
