While some parts of Indiana County are on the tail end of a winter weather advisory, snow and ice have made conditions slick on area roads.
The National Weather service’s Winter Weather Advisory for the upper elevations of Indiana County is set to expire at 10:00 this morning, but the winter storm has brought some ice and about 1-2 inches of fresh snow to the ground, making conditions slick overnight. While no crashes have been reported yet by Indiana County 911, PennDOT is advising people to use some extra care in driving this morning, and to make sure their emergency kits have items dedicated for winter weather, including warm clothes, a blanket, and a small snow shovel.
Plow trucks will also be out today, and PennDOT asks drivers to stay six car lengths behind the plow truck and remember that the main plow is wider than the truck itself. They also advise people to not pass snow plows as the weight of the snow thrown from the plow can cause vehicles to lose control.
The poor road conditions led to two hour delays across all of Indiana County’s public schools. To check the latest from the Armstrong-Indiana Intermediate Unit, click here.
