More Pennsylvania Democrats switched their voter registration to Republican in 2023 than vice versa, including in Indiana County, where Republicans were already dominant.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of State, 35,589 Democrats re-registered as Republicans in 2023, compared to 15,622 Republicans who became Democrats. The numbers were as of December 18th.
In Indiana County, Republicans gained 2,037 registered voters while Democrats added 1,203. There are 27,146 registered Republicans and 15,254 Democrats, a difference of 11,892, according to the Voter Registration office.
Out of 68 voting precincts in Indiana County, 60 have more registered Republicans than Democrats, and of the ones where Democrats hold the edge, 6 are in Indiana Borough, one is in White Township, and one is in Homer City Borough.
The municipality where Republicans hold their biggest edge is Rayne Township, where there are 1,256 registered Republicans and 409 Democrats, a difference of 847. In Rayne Township, Republicans gained 66 more registered voters in 2023 and Democrats gained 11.
