With warmer temperatures bringing formidable boating conditions across the state, the PA Fish and Boat Commission, along with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the National Safe Boating Council, announced that this week will be recognized as National Boat Safety Week.
The initiative kicked off on Saturday, May 22, and will run until Friday, May 28, and its goal is to spread boat safety guidelines while staying safe on the water.
The Commission said that whether you take to the waters on a fishing or pontoon boat, you can ensure boat safety by:
- Always wearing a life jacket.
- Never boating under the influence.
- Having proper registrations and launch permits.
- Having a float plan to let someone know where you’re boating and when you plan on returning.
Boaters are also encouraged to take a boating safety course to stay updated on the latest boating safety protocols.
