Friday afternoon and evening were busy times for Indiana County’s First responders due to the strong winds that came through the area.
Between noon and 7:35 PM on Friday, 15 incidents where utility lines were down were reported by Indiana County 911 in West Mahoning, Brush Valley, West Wheatfield, Rayne, White, Montgomery, Burrell and Black Lick Townships. Many of those calls resulted in outages across the county. At this hour, Penelec is reporting 200 outages, with the highest concentrated outage area being Burrell Township with 90 outages at this point. Outages are also reported in Green, Montgomery, Black Lick, West Wheatfield and White Townships along with Blairsville Borough. This comes after many of these areas saw similar damage from windstorms earlier this week. Penelec officials say at the height of the storms, about 4000 people were without power.
No word yet on when power will be restored to those areas, but crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible.
No outages are reported at this time by REA Energy.
Strong winds are expected today, as Indiana County is under a wind advisory until 1:00 tomorrow morning. Winds are expected from the southwest at 20-30 miles an hour with gusts up to 45 miles an hour.
