The first round of the NFL playoffs this weekend may feature some of the most extreme weather ever for football, and that includes a possible blizzard forecast for Sunday’s game between the Steelers and Bills in Buffalo.
Accuweather’s official forecast calls for 1 to 3 inches of snow Saturday, another 1 to 3 Saturday night, and 1 to 3 again on Sunday. However, a band of lake effect snow could be bringing one to three feet of snow to Buffalo over the next two days, falling at two to three inches per hour, with gusting winds at over 30 miles per hour and whiteout conditions.
One media report said the NFL has told officials in Cleveland to be prepared to host the game if they need to move it out of Buffalo, but multiple other sources said that’s not true.
Whatever the weather, the Steelers and Bills will get down to action with Pittsburgh a 10-point underdog, the largest spread in football this weekend.
Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who will return on Sunday after missing the last three games with a knee injury, says it will be tough dealing with Buffalo’s offense without TJ Watt, but they’ll get the job done.
Running back Najee Harris says the Steelers don’t care what the weather is…they’re just happy to be playing.
Linebacker Elandon Roberts says it’s important for him to prepare for this game just like any regular season game.
Roberts, Fitzpatrick, Harris, and guard Isaac Seumalo all were full practice participants yesterday. All of them have been suffering from injuries in recent weeks.
The Games Sunday kicks off at one o’clock. The pregame airs on WDAD at noon.
