Pennsylvania’s Attorney General has announced the launch of the office’s first-ever section dedicated to human trafficking.
The mission of the office is to address and bolster statewide efforts to effectively investigate and prosecute human trafficking cases and to make it easier to give victims aid. The section will be led by the Chief Deputy Attorney General Heather Castellino and will work closely with local, state and federal agencies to investigate and prosecute human trafficking crimes. Another part of the new office’s mission is to continue education and outreach efforts on the topic.
In a statement, AG Michelle Henry said that the crime takes many forms and exploits those who are vulnerable, leaving them scarred emotionally and physically, and that she looks forward to “continuing our work with local, state, and federal partners who are making monumental strides to bring these heinous crimes out of the shadows.”
The announcement comes during Human Trafficking Awareness month and on Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
