The Penguins take the ice tonight against the New York Islanders for game two of their NHL East series, with New York holding a 1-0 lead after Sunday’s 4-3 overtime win. You’ll hear the game on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel, with the pregame beginning at 6:30.
Penguins coach Mike Sullivan says Sunday’s game showed how evenly matched the two teams are.
Sullivan says the Penguins need to make better decision on getting the puck into the Islanders end of the ice.
Sullivan says that there will be no surprises in this series since the teams are so familiar with each other.
Injured center Evgeni Malkin skated with the team yesterday and will be a game-time decision for Sullivan. Backup goalie Casey DeSmith did not practice again, and defenseman Brian Dumoulin missed practice too, which Sullivan said was for a “maintenance day”. Dumoulin was hit in the foot by a slap shot in the third period on Sunday. DeSmith has been out the last four Penguins’ games with an undisclosed injury.
In the other NHL East semifinal, Boston’s Brad Marchand scored the fastest playoff overtime goal for the Bruins in franchise history, 39 seconds in, as they beat the Capitals 4-3 and evened the series at 1-1.
