The Indiana County Commissioners met Wednesday morning and approved a settlement agreement between the county and Avanco, a data management company.
Matthew Budash, the county’s solicitor said that the issue was concerning security of the system and the data that was collected and stored in that system for the county’s child welfare agency. After the negotiations and a mediation session, Budash reported that a settlement of $2,462.69 was awarded to the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, or CCAP.
In other business, the commissioners approved a 2018 Help America Vote Act grant of $84,792 that will be used for voting machine replacement for the county. All counties are under an edict from the PA Department of State to have new voting systems that require a verifiable paper ballot or paper record of every vote cast. County Commissioner Mike Baker said the grant will help a little bit in paying for those voting machines, but because of some foresight from the commissioners and the county’s chief clerk Robin Maryai, paying for the new machines will be no problem. Baker said few years ago, county commissioners and Maryai set aside “a couple of million dollars” to pay for new voting machines. Voting machines for the county are set to cost between $750,000 and $800,000.
The new machines must be in place for the Spring 2020 elections.
